COURSE DESCRIPTION
Using the beautiful narrative found in Scripture and relying on mental health best practice, this Trauma Healing Seminar is designed to facilitate the discovery of how God thinks and feels about human disparity and equip people to care for the broken and afflicted. Whether trauma healing is taking place in Gulu, Uganda, the Middle East or Phoenix, Arizona, students will learn to understand the unique struggles and cultural context needed to foster deep emotional healing and restore relationships with God and others.
OBJECTIVE OF THE SEMINAR
Trauma Healing Seminar trains facilitators to equip others as trauma healers, discovering in a deeper way who God is in the Scripture narrative regarding suffering. It unites proven mental health practices and engagement with Scripture enabling healing and wholeness to occur, and putting it into the hands of trauma healers, a way for the Gospel of Christ and His Word to be embraced throughout the whole world.
FORMATION & INTENDED STUDENTS
Our desire within Youth With a Mission is to take the gospel of Christ to the Nations and see many be discipled so that they might know and love God. However, when someone is traumatized, they often have a block between their head and heart and are not able to fully engage with scripture or enjoy an intimate relationship with the Lord. Once the trauma is addressed, the person can be truly freed to understand the gospel and know and love God and others. They become human bearers of hope and the compassionate God who is not untouched by human ailments.
Its for people that are willing to identify their own “heart wounds” and desire to bring them to Christ and find freedom in Him, thus becoming increasingly effective ministers in seeing lives transformed and the Gospel of Christ and His Word embraced throughout the world!
FORMAT OF THE SEMINAR
This Trauma Healing seminar uses a unique method of uniting proven mental health practices and engagement with scripture. There is lecture content with much facilitation to engage participants actively in the learning process. Small and big group interactions takes place frequently. Role plays and skits, visual aids are utilized and several mode of practical heart exercises are applied along the way to facilitate individual and group insight and emotional/spiritual processes.
COURSE OUTCOMES:
Knowledge:
– Students will gain a full understanding of the definition of trauma and it’s many causes.
– They will understand how a Traumatized person often feels and behaves and affects others.
– They will gain a deeper understanding of how God thinks, feels and respond to human suffering from biblical narrative.
Skill
– They will be equipped with practical mental health and Biblical tools to help someone who is experiencing Trauma
– They will be equipped through practice exercises and coaching to facilitate “Healing Groups”.
– They will be able to facilitate reflection and feedback on scripture study.
Attitude
– Students will understand the compassionate, patient and beautiful care we receive from Jesus and Holy Spirit as He cares for us.
– Together, we will seek/ ask the Holy Spirit to fill us and for us to experience this same heart as we lovingly care for the trauma of others.
